Prayer 283: Peace

Dear God

It all comes down to peace and how we live it, doesn’t it? Because through all the ups and downs of this life, and the sheer busyness and intricacies of existence, Your peace is the golden apple we run after, whether we know it or not.

But, if only we fully understood it, that same peace is already deep within us, as You have planted it in our hearts already so we might know and love You more fully. Please open our eyes and our understanding so we might live more deeply in Your peace. Thank You.

Prayer 222: God’s amazing love

Dear God

In the midst of all the distractions and ups and downs of this life, I more often than not lose sight of the fact of how much You love me. You love me so much that even if I were the only person in the world, You would still send Jesus to save me. Thank You for your constantly seeking love, and help me to be more willing to be found. Thank You.

Prayer 200: God’s life-changing love

Dear God

Goodness, my 200th prayer! Anyone would think that I actually liked praying, rather than finding it horrendously difficult. Thank You for listening to my meanderings in such a generous way. Help me to remember that no matter how tiresome or dull prayer seems to me, it’s always worth it as underneath and over everything we try to do is Your great and life-changing love. Thank You.

Prayer 196: An expansive love

Dear God

Thank You that You are a God of relationships, not of rules. Thank You that Your love helps us expand and deepen our humanity, not constrict it. Help me to open my heart more fully to Your presence every day and may Your Spirit work through me to bless others. Thank You.

Prayer 186: the joy of equal marriage

Dear God

Thank You so much that love wins over everything else, every time. Thank You for the wonderful gift therefore of love and marriage, and thank You for the marvellous news from America this weekend that so many more people can now share in the gift of marriage. Hallelujah!

Prayer 184: The God of creative solutions

Dear God

I have to say You do come up with some unusual solutions to our problems, and sometimes the answer to prayer is what we least expect to happen. Thank You for being such a creative God Who always pushes the boundaries of what we can imagine. Help me to have an expectant heart and a deeper understanding of the extraordinary heights and depths of Your love. Thank You.

Prayer 156: The Horror of Smugness

Dear God

I really hate smug or condescending people. They make me feel quite violent as I don’t see the point of either attitude. We’re all in the same boat of trying to get on in the world, after all, so why can’t we just all work together rather than get at each other? As my mother used to say, we need to learn how to ‘play nicely’ with each other – so help me to play my part in that and to try to respond to smugness with love, not anger. Thank You.
