Prayer 285: God’s creativity

Dear God

People really do some crazy and hysterical things at times, don’t they? This week so far has been full of surprises and laughter and it’s really been seeing us all through. So thank You for creating people in all their astonishing, rainbow-coloured creativity and making everyone thoroughly and blessedly unique. Help me to appreciate and care for people the way You do, and a special thank You for Your creativity and humour.

Prayer 201: Too much heat!

Dear God

I really don’t think this sweltering heat is doing anything at all for my ability to be nice to people! So I’m sorry for the times I mess things up. Please give me and all of us grace to be patient and pleasant, instead of crotchety and cruel, no matter how strangely hot it’s getting – both inside and out! Thank You.

Prayer 198: People come first

Dear God

Help me to remember that people are far more important than projects or even principles. With You, people always come first – so help me never to be so busy with the many things I need to do that I have no time to watch out for and listen to people. Thank You.

Prayer 192: Heavens above!

Dear God

The trouble is – and I hate to say it – that I actually don’t really like what I read in the Bible about heaven. Sorry, but that’s just the way it is. For someone like me who likes to be alone or just with my loved one, the concept of a place where there are so many people and all that constant noise of praise is really rather horrid. I hope that in heaven, there will at least be a quiet garden where we can escape to, and perhaps You will be there too to wander around with us. That would be nice. Thank You.

Prayer 185: Internet issues

Dear God

I really don’t know what we did before the Internet arrived. Probably a lot more reading and talking with people, I suppose. Anyway, it’s here to stay now and so I’d like you to know how ruddy irritating it is when it goes down. I know we live in the countryside and therefore our Internet is honour-bound to be as creaky as a sleepy snail, but we’re all supposed to be connected now at the touch of a button. So it would be nice if we actually were, harrumph! Thank You for listening and I suppose I’d better leave the Internet to sort itself out and go and do something more interesting and no doubt healthier instead for a while.

Prayer 180: God’s vision

Dear God

The trouble with the Bible is that there’s just so much going on even in the most obvious of passages. It’s like an iceberg where all I can see is one small section of truth, but there’s a vast amount of wisdom and blessing under the surface that I can’t see or truly understand. Much like people, I suppose – as we only ever see a small part of who people are, as everything underneath is so much deeper and more glorious than we can ever imagine. Help me to see more clearly with Your vision rather than my own. Thank You.

Prayer 72: Unexpected people

Dear God

Thank You that You use all sorts of people to do Your holy work, even if they don’t know You. Help me to be prepared for good things to come from all sorts of people and situations, and especially when I least expect it. Thank You!
